Gaffer Glynn Stephens shares his thoughts on our winning game against Mile Oak at the weekend.

CHUFC 2 - 1 MILE OAK
Goals: Tobe Uzor & Maurice Black

We got the job done against Mile Oak in the end but I thought we were nervy in the first half and again in the last 20 minutes when our opponents got a goal back. I probably hadn’t fully appreciated the strength of the wind we were up against in the first half, but even so, we didn’t adapt our approach and became predictable and easy to play against. Mile Oak caused us a few problems but we defended well enough to keep them out without ever really threatening their goal at all.

We spoke at half-time about managing the conditions better and the fact that we had through our first-half performance made this a 45-minute game.

We were so much better after the restart and put right a number of things none of which was to do with the conditions. We had more energy, kept good width in the game, and suddenly the openings were there. The 2 goals we scored in the opening 15 minutes should have been the platform to go and get a third and fourth but a defensive lapse allowed the Mile Oak striker too much time in our penalty box to convert easily.

Maybe its easier said than done but if we had got back to where we were we probably would have extended our lead but the nerves crept in. We defended a little too deep and that made for a difficult end to the game but we got there and I'm immensely proud of the run that the lads have put together to make the back end of the season interesting.
