New look Chessy see off a well organised and experienced Wick side

Not ideal for our first competitive game of the season to be an FA Cup game but we got on with it and what a performance from the lads!

We couldn't find anything on our opponents leading up to the game apart from their obvious danger man was forward Daniel Simmonds who scored 34 goals last year.

It was rather obvious from the get go what Wick's tactics were and to be completely honest it played right into our hands as we had work and work on this over pre season, it took us about 15mins to switch on but when we did they didn't really offer anything else and IAN HEWITT in our goal was definitely the least worked keeper on the pitch.

We opened the scoring after 16mins when a quick throw by J FLACK was hooked on by debutant KIENION ROBINSON to an advancing KYLE GREEN who's pace and skill beat the full back, he then fired the ball low and hard across the face of the goal and the ball was bundled home by AARON AYGEMANG on his debut!

Straight from the restart we were bombarded with free kicks and corners into our penalty box and Wick got their equaliser after 20mins, a well worked corner was fizzed back to the edge of the box but the shot was blocked, straight into the path of Robert Wimble who smashed the ball home into the roof of the net! IAN HEWITT had no chance in the Chessy goal.

I always give credit when it is due and our lads responded brilliantly to conceding, taking the game to Wick again with AYGEMANG, ROBINSON and K GREEN causing the visitors back line all sorts of problems with their pace.

On 26mins AYGEMANG turned and raced past the Wick full back, into the area and was hacked down just before getting his shot away, PENALTY!

K GREEN stepped up confidently and converted into the bottom right!

At half time myself and JAMES DEACONS told the lads what they needed to do, we knew it wasn't going to be a pretty second half but the lads took on board our instructions and executed our game plan perfectly.

Skipper DAN GREEN alongside two more debutants LEWIS SKIPP and AARON JOHNSON controlled the middle of the park a lot better in the second half and gave us a platform to build from, this allowed the forever willing J FLACK and ADAM MARIE to get further forward up the pitch, after 60mins good work by MARIE (who had a blinding game) he played in AYGEMANG who again beat his man, his cross went all the way to the back stick where K GREEN was positioned to tap home, the visitors felt the goal was offside but I couldn't see from my angle.

D GREEN hit a thunderous left footed half volley from 25 yards, everyone in the ground waited for the net to bulge but his effort went inches wide of the Wick post.

ADE PETERS replaced the injured ROBINSON just after the goal, shortly followed by JOHNSON being replaced by RUDOLPH TEWE for his debut. These substitutions gave us fresh legs going forward and injected more pace which the Wick defence just couldn't deal with, PETERS, TEWE and K GREEN all guilty of missing one on one chances as the score line should of been made bigger.

CHRISTIAN MONEY and ANDREW JONES another debutant, kept the Wick forwards at bay and never really looked in any danger of conceding from open play.

17 year old RYAN HOWARD replaced SKIPP late on to a big cheer from the under 18s situated in the main stand.

We saw the game out for the last ten minutes or so, I was expecting an onslaught which never came, in fact we should have scored more in the last few minutes.

Final score Chessy 3-1 Wick, we now travel to big spenders Guildford City in the next round who are being tipped for promotion from the league above this year.
