Arundel 1 - CHUFC 0
Our long sequence of away games continued on Saturday with a visit to Arundel where I named probably the youngest Chessington team for some time. Although the result went against us the overall display of the team was excellent. The lads played without fear and with a real energy and freshness and looked dangerous throughout. I was pleased that with so many changes we settled the better of the 2 teams and created the first chances, with the pace of our front 3 causing a number of problems, but Arundel's well-organised defence meant that they were able to keep us out.
We competed well all round the pitch and it was a shame that the goal we conceded just after the half-hour was avoidable. We had dealt with the initial danger but got into a mess with the second phase of that play and allowed Arundel an easy goal. Our response was excellent but for 2 unbelievable saves from the Arundel goalkeeper, who was later named man of the match, we would have at the very least been level at the break.
The second half was a little less eventful with both sides probably feeling that their approach play deserved a goal but we defended resolutely, missed one chance that perhaps we should have taken, and were denied again from a free kick with another good save from their goalkeeper.
On a pitch that made it difficult we played some attractive football and on the balance of play I felt we did enough to take a draw but it wasn’t to be as we move on to tomorrow night's home fixture against Dorking Wanderers B team.
