Glynn Stephens shares his thoughts on the winning home game against Dorking Wanderers on Tuesday 19th March

This game was certainly worth the wait for everyone connected to the club as we beat Dorking Wanderers 5-0 with unquestionably our best performance of the season. The early goals obviously settled the team and took the confidence levels through the roof but we didn’t get lucky in scoring those. We asked for high intensity, confidence, and belief, and made clear that if our performance levels were right we would do well. Having said that no one envisaged a 3-goal lead after just 7 minutes but it was fully deserved. In every department, we were better and 5 up at the break was a fair reflection of our dominance.

It seems strange to say but I was actually equally as pleased with what we did in the second half as I was with the unbelievable showing in the first. Everything we did early on went our way and we punished Dorking nearly every time we attacked and I never felt that the second half would be the same. I expected a reaction from Dorking and for our own intensity to drop slightly on a heavy pitch and so it proved. What was exceptional was our desire to not concede, to remain disciplined, and to still be progressive when we could. It wasn’t as spectacular but from a management perspective the second half was equally as impressive as the spectacular first.

This was a truly exceptional performance and every player deserves a great deal of credit for their performance. Hopefully, we can produce something similar against top of the table Roffey on Saturday.
