FIRST TEAM MANAGER ON THE INFINITY GAME

FIRST TEAM MANAGER ON THE INFINITY GAME

Tracy Dale20 Jan - 19:30

Saturday 18th January 2025

INFINITY 4 - 2 CHUFC
Goals: Kai Neil-Gray and Infinity own goal

It was another tough one to take as for the second game running we lost having been in front although the circumstances were very different. I felt we were a bit naïve in our concession of the first goal to a penalty that may or may not have been but the challenge allowed the referee to make a decision that went against us.

The reaction though was excellent and I thought we enjoyed a 30-minute spell where we pretty much controlled the game. We missed a great opportunity to equalise shortly after going behind from a corner but then did draw level from another that was only half-cleared. Although the initial shot was going wide we benefitted from a slice of luck as it deflected in off Kai Neil-Gray. We were on the front foot at this stage and causing Infinity some problems with our set plays being absolutely spot on. The goal that gave us the lead was again fortunate with the goalkeeper kneeing the ball into his own net as he attempted to collect it and I felt that we were getting one of those games where it just falls for you.

On the stroke of half time a needless free kick, from which the resulting shot was dropped and then not dealt with by our defence led to another penalty with another challenge that was rightly penalised. It was against the run of play but with it happening right on half time I was fearful of a swing in momentum.

In the second half, we didn’t have the same control and were coming under increasing pressure and it always felt that we would need to score again to get something. Perhaps the greater experience of our opponents got them a few decisions that saw them awarded a number of free kicks that could have gone either way. From one such 50-50 call, we conceded a cheap goal when it was headed in from close range and we never really threatened to get level after.

I felt we kept going and was honest with what we were doing and I was pleased that we were still in with a chance as we got to the latter stages of the game. Changes were made to chase a goal which didn’t have an effect and as we left some gaps as we pushed forward we conceded again to see us lose again.

We need a quick reaction as we play again on Tuesday in what will be another tough game against a playoff hopeful.
