Tuesday’s trip to Westfield saw us with an opportunity to reach the semi final of the Southern Combination Cup.

On an excellent surface the only doubt about the game taking place was the fog although as forecast that cleared quickly.

Preparations as can often be the case midweek were disrupted this time by the FA cup replay at Woking although thankfully the rushed team talk didn’t unduly affect the early showing.

With a familiar look to the back line and holding midfield the only real changes of note were the reintroduction of Daniel Bennett following his suspension, the return of Aaron Cole-Bolt after missing the win at Ash and Gavin Quintyne being deployed as a makeshift centre forward.

Early on our hosts lively approach saw them have a fair amount of possession and a number of shots on goal, although to be fair none of them hit the target and Fisher was never troubled. Those slight moments of concern following our own bright start when Bennett seemed to be fouled in the box after just two minutes, only for our appeals to be waved away. As we grew into the game our own performance improved and the surface clearly was to our liking as our slick passing saw us begin to create a few chances of our own.

With us now in the ascendancy we were rewarded ten minutes before half time, when a fine move involving Bennett and Quintyne saw Cole-Bolt’s through ball latched onto by Jason Massing who spectacularly converted for his second goal of the season.

The goal changed the game as the second half saw us control the tempo and dictate just about every aspect of play.

The main danger being that with the game split by the odd goal one moment of indecision could have proved costly.

Midway through the half Graca replaced Cole-Bolt and he had an instant impact on the game. His energetic display causing problems for the home defence every time he got on the ball.

Any such warning was not heeded as it was Graca`s cross to Daniel Bennett that saw the game finally killed off with about twenty minutes remaining, Bennett finishing with his left foot high into the top corner.

Just minutes later Bennett scored again , his mazy run and cool finish under pressure sealing a fine comeback for him. With the game now done Matt Ellis was replaced by Jimmy Brazil and his own fifteen-minute cameo was impressive and should have been capped with a late goal, but his rushed effort rolled the wrong side of the post.

As the game neared completion the back four somewhat timidly gave up its clean sheet bonus when with the shape all wrong we conceded far too easily.

Late on Andrew Heath took a late one and was replaced by Adam Welch who himself looked lively confirming that when everyone is available we have a lot in reserve.
