The league must really look at the schedule and give clubs a chance, not just us but everyone. This was our sixteenth league game in fifty days, and with another four in the next twelve days it means we have played half of our league schedule bar one game in two months. And all this in a season that started on August 8 2009.
So to the game, and the short report clear indication that what was served up by both sides and the officials was typically end of season.
Guildford scored with their first attack after sloppy defending by us. Our response served up very little, but at least we played with a tempo that befits this standard of football, although the managers displeasure at the carefree attitude of his players was there for all to see.
Our only chances of note in the first half were hardly created from good approach play, but more to do with the instinctive reactions from the players concerned. Firstly Todd shot narrowly wide following a mix up between Guildford`s central defender and keeper, then Martin Jackson with a long range first time effort following a poor clearance and lastly a Matt Holley header cleared off the line from a corner.
To be fair the second half was ours, although our finishing was below standard. Darren Smith coming closest when he hit the post and a series of chances when we could have done better falling to Todd, Timba and Cheadle.
Back to back home defeats and injuries to more key players will see us go into Thursdays game wounded and with a point to prove.
