Without a win in nine games

And with a very much depleted squad, credit must go to the players who pulled on a Chessington shirt for the last but one game of the season at home to Wembley.

To be fair several youngsters and those who for most of the season had been in the reserves were elevated into the starting line up, and produced the most energetic display for some time.

Sure there was an end of season feel to the game, but the energy of the players lifted the mood of all present in what turned out to be an entertaining game.

The openness of the match saw chances at both ends with Wembley having the better of the early exchanges, probably because the selected eleven were still getting used to each other.

However when we settled we started to play ,and midway through the first half we took the lead when a sweeping move involving Daniel Penfold , Adam Welch and Daniel Bennett resulted in Bennett himself coolly slotting home.
Just minutes later and latching onto a fine Aaron Leacock through ball, Bennett nearly made it two but was denied by a fine save from the Wembley goalkeeper.

The second half produced more of the same although defensively we remained solid and difficult to break down limiting Wembley to very few real clear cut chances. Offensively we grew in confidence and looked capable of increasing the lead each time we attacked. There was a sense we needed a second goal to make the evening a bit more comfortable,but the goal just would not come, although another fine move that released Adam Welch in the last ten minutes appeared to have done the trick but his fine strike went agonisingly wide.

Thankfully we were not made to pay and held on for a well deserved one nil win.
