And so the final day of the season

And so the final day of the season came and went and fittingly saw our first hat trick of the season and biggest win.

On a carnival day that saw players staff and supporters adorning Hawaiian gear the relaxed atmosphere carried into our play and thankfully saw us produce a performance without fear and with a smile on our face and to be fair enjoy some of our best football of the year.

The opening exchanges were a little lacklustre and not for the first time typically end of season.

This changed on twenty-nine minutes when Daniel Bennett scored following some neat interplay. The goal a mirror image of his finish against Wembley in midweek, and in the same minute. At last the tempo increased and just minutes later a long through ball from Aaron Leacock found Bennett who confidently slotted home his and the teams second.

With the contest as good as settled chances came and went in plentiful supply. Perhaps a two-goal lead not a true reflection of the way the game was going.

Nothing changed in the second half other than the confidence of the team seemed to grow further particularly evident in the performances of the recently elevated players in the squad. Fine performances from Adam Chandler, Cameron Goff and the reliable Danny Heath along with substitutes Adam Welch and Daniel Penfold a major factor in the one sided nature of the game.

With seventeen minutes to go Bennett completed his hat trick. A fine cross field pass from Todd released the young striker who audaciously delayed slotting home to showboat his way around four defenders before crashing home passed the bemused keeper. The celebration wasn’t bad either.

As the final whistle approached and with us searching for more, Daniel Penfold, a new addition to the team in the last few weeks, brilliantly struck home from the edge of the area to cap a fine all round team performance.

A top six finish as good as secured is fair reward for the efforts of the team this season and hopefully this will be the platform that we can kick on from for next year.
