Cricket was the winner

So we still cant get a win and its on me to put this right and quick .

I have mulled over this game and the previous 5 to try to get a solution and in avoiding the obvious sarcastic point that other sides are scoring more than we are , we clearly aren’t anywhere near the levels we were at last year and are capable of .

It doesn’t take a lot to realise we are not scoring enough as in 6 competitive games we have just 3 and 2 of those have been penalties .

What I perhaps didn’t put enough significance on is that a very settled squad of 16 or so at the back end of last season has had 8 players who played a major role in the unbeaten 15 games either leave or be not available . Sang left for Corinthian Casuals , Asher for Larkfield & New Hythe , Kai for Lewes , Bailey Neil Gray for a new challenge , Reece Tierney has work commitments , Bailey Ellis has missed 4 of the 6 games , Tobe has missed 5 and John although figuring in some match day squads has been injured throughout . For any team that is massive and whilst I wont use it as an excuse its proving a lot to contend with .

We started OK in this one and had a few corners that asked some questions at 0 0 and had half a chance when some good combination play created an opening but didn’t have a constant threat and that was the problem . Lordswood managed us and were able to play on the front foot for most of the time and made good use of the available space that they found purely by honest endeavour and getting around the pitch better . We were 2 down at the break and it was all about the next goal without ever really thinking that we could get back into it .

The shape was changed and it did plug the gaps and keep us within touching distance but we never really looked like scoring and the concession of a third in the last minute probably accurately reflected the margins between the two teams .

Its hugely frustrating and I don’t think we have become really bad at all but we are lacking confidence and if we go behind we look a beaten side .

I will change it up on Saturday as we search for our first win and if we get it Im sure more will follow in quick succession but it is all about getting that first one .
