On the warmest day of the year we visited another top 3 side in Camberley

Again came away with nothing despite another encouraging performance.
Defending the slope in the first half we coped quite well, and but for a couple of difficult moments we weren’t overly troubled.

Michael Sharpe and his defence seemed well marshalled throughout and the main dangers were from set plays which to be fair were kept to a minimum. At the other end we created a few chances ourselves, and may consider that from a series of corners we should have done better.

In open play however we were often let down with our final ball and a reluctance to put the ball in the danger area when the opportunity was there, although our movement in the top third couldn’t be criticised. However our somewhat lazy approach to remaining onside curtailed a number of potentially promising situations.

Overall the half offered up two contrasting styles neither of which particularly threatened to be successful.
At the start of the second period the first major opening of the game fell to us.

A free kick awarded on the edge of the box saw Aaron Cole –Bolt’s effort only half saved, and Luke Fontana following up should have scored, however somehow his attempt went away from the goal and a clearance was made.

Following this we had more of the same with the long ball style of Camberley effective at times and our shorter passing approach undone by a combination of the surface and our own technique.

With both sides keen to get a win though, all 22 players persevered and the first and only goal came for our hosts just after Sixty-Six minutes. Slack marking at a corner gifted a free header to the Camberley front man from in front of the near post, and that moment cost us the game.

To our credit we pushed hard for an equaliser, and with Camberley having settled for the one goal win and taking as much time from the game as possible, we nearly got it in the final minute.

Aaron Cole-Bolt picking up the ball in the middle of the park ran unchallenged to the edge of the penalty box before unleashing a ferocious drive that beat the keepe,r but came back of the post.

This proved to be the last chance at either end and another defeat extended our winless run to five.
