Continue our move towards the top six it was a massive disappointment to be well beaten by four goals to nil by lowly Banstead.
The characteristics that had seen us grind out two good wins was not on show with at least half the team under performing and almost seeming disinterested.
I am sure that the management will view that quite dimly as this wasn’t a day of being physically out muscled or being out passed and undone with genuine quality it was that the players just didn’t try.
Banstead to be fair were first to every ball, worked for each other throughout, wanted the result more, were organised and showed what hard work on a football pitch can bring.
They thoroughly deserved to win, of that there was no question.
Our own attacks were so rare but when we produced any sort of opening it was usually through the combined contribution of Burns, Smith and Cole-Bolt with probably the best opportunity falling to Smith.
I can t remember much else about what we did going forward.
At the back we were undone far too easily and again thanks should go to Puckett, who battled on despite a knee injury and Webber who didn’t stop trying to make a difference for keeping the score line just about on the right side of embarrassing.
Bansteads goals came midway through the first half when a right wing cross was swept home, five minutes into the second half when slack marking allowed for a relatively comfortable finish and back to back goals the last of which came from our own restart in the last ten minutes.
Well beaten and with a huge improvement needed if we are to match last seasons points return.
