Taking top spot as a result of Saturday’s away win at Dorking, and the optimism was justified following an impressive performance and well deserved th

A sprightly start saw us have more of the early possession but without troubling the visiting keeper, perhaps our ineffectiveness allowing the visitors to get a foothold in the game. In fact for the opening twenty minutes or so both sides cancelled each other out. Too often tidy play in midfield by both sides came to nothing as both defences despite the honest endeavours of all the forwards on show were coming out on top.
Gradually though we seized the initiative and the run in to the break saw a number of half chances come and go when maybe we could have done better.

Entering the break at nil nil was probably about right, but the decent finish to the half did make it seem that we had maybe missed an opportunity in not scoring whilst on top.

Within five minutes of the restart the deadlock was broken. A misplaced clearance fell to Gavin Quintyne and his early pass allowed Malik Buari to roll his defender and smash confidently home.
Although immediately following the goal we did the right things to keep our lead intact, it only took the visitors a few short minutes to restore parity.

Out of nothing a cross into the penalty box that should have been dealt with was only half cleared, and a quick interchange of passes saw a confident side foot shot find the corner of the net.

Our response to this setback however was good, and on the hour a well-flighted corner from Matt Ellis was headed home by Chris Davidson for his first goal for the club. With the belief restored we avoided any immediate mishaps and started to create further goal scoring opportunities. With just under twenty to go fine work by Zak Graham in a left wing position saw his pinpoint cross headed home by Malik Buari to give us a two-goal advantage.

As the clock ticked down a few niggly moments crept in as both sides remained competitive and with a clear desire to get what they could from the game.

With a flurry of late substitutions, Epsom to chase the game and ourselves to run the clock down, the game became a little disjointed and frantic although Mark Daniels point blank save with five minutes remaining went some considerable way to calming the nerves.

Right on full time our lead could and should have been further increased when substitutes Andrew Heath and Baptiste Bogle combined only to see Bogle`s lofted shot go agonisingly wide.
At last a performance and a result at the same time, and our table topping status remains intact.
