Our recent run of home games saw us face Hanworth Villa for the third time this season having already been well beaten twice by them.

Earlier in the campaign and less than forty eight hours after our humiliation against Banstead.

There was a noticeable improvement in the work rate of the team from the off, but to be fair to the visitors they had most of the early play and should have tested Sharpe in the home goal far more often. Hanworth I’m sure rueing the fact that their forwards missed the target too often and on occasions didn’t even get their shot away when well placed.

As the game reached the quarter point we began to play a little more freely, probably a bit of belief returning to the players and as a result we created one or two chances of our own. A Zak Graham header nearly found the target and then shortly after a Cole-Bolt free kick caused confusion before being scrambled away following a half stop by the visiting keeper.

A minute before the break and the lead was ours. Aaron Cole-Bolts corner met firmly by skipper Matt Holley who headed home his first goal for the club. Possibly on the balance of play a little against the run of play but a more spirited performance and a well worked set play had made the visitors pay for their missed opportunities.

At the restart the expected onslaught from Hanworth just didn’t materialise and our continued hard work saw us take control of the game. Having said that we knew a second goal was needed and unfortunately we spurned one or two good opportunities and were just a little unlucky on another couple of occasions.

The nearest we came was from a well-directed Matt Ellis free kick that missed everyone, nearly deceiving the goalkeeper but his last ditch reaction save denied us.

As the game became further stretched we had clear opportunities to score again and were relatively untroubled at the back. When we were called upon defensively we were efficient and as the game entered its final few minutes it looked like both sides believed we would win by the odd goal.

In the space of a minute though the game changed. A speculative attempt on our goal looked to be comfortable for Sharpe but he was a little unfortunate that the ball spun off his shoulder and into the net.

Somewhat shell shocked at the loss of two points we immediately offered our opponents the chance to take all three. Slack defending saw our back line almost all on the missing list and only a last ditch save from Sharpe gave us at least one point from the game.
