A side who had beaten us comfortably just a few weeks earlier and who were still pushing for a top 3 finish, whilst our own campaign couldn’t finish soon enough.
In a shape designed to combat the attacking threat of the Molesey wide men, who had caused us so many problems in the first game, it was disappointing to see a lack of effort in the early stages and that in itself was responsible for the first goal of the game. Whilst the strike from the full back was quite superb the reluctance to track his run allowed him the freedom of the park and the only positive from this setback was that it sparked us into action.
Whilst not looking particularly threatening, time and again we were given glimmers of hope and usually when the Molesey goalkeeper was involved as his uncertainty on every cross and half shot served as encouragement.
Midway through the half we were level when from a half clearance Andrew Heaths shot was spilled for Jimmy Brazil to tuck away his first goal for the club.
Having been lifted by the equaliser we were now toe-to-toe with Molesey and the game itself was even.
That was until a minute before the break when a deflected shot eluded Mark Daniels and Matt Holley and gifted a tap in to the Molesey forward.
The goal seemed to end our enthusiasm for the game, as the second half was almost all in favour of our visitors as we became pedestrian in every thing that we did. Our solitary attempt a left foot strike that shaved the post.
A lack of good football on a difficult surface could be understood but the sheer lack of effort was at times unacceptable. In fact the real surprise in all of this was that we were still just a goal behind with twenty minutes to go. That was about to change though as Moleseys movement and accurate passing undone us with ease to gift them their third and the only positive from the final moments of the game is that we weren’t punished further.
