In the lead up to this one I was thinking that we just couldn’t get a break . Weve played well in some games and perhaps not got the result our performance deserved , weve been ok in some and had a few key moments go against us and in all honesty there have been a couple where we have been terrible .
Then after this game and with even more analysing perhaps the fact that in our last 6 games weve had a player sent off 4 times it made me realise that its all on us most of the time .
Tooting Bec started well and looked very lively up front but we dealt with that and grew into the game . It was only 20 minutes in but we looked sharp , were competitive around the pitch , had defended well and asked a few questions ourselves .
Theres always a turning point and this happened at the midway point . From our cross a pretty obvious handball that would have given us a penalty had it been viewed differently was waved away , with the guilty defender hurriedly dispatching the ball up field presumably to distract the referee from actually making a decision , for it for the umpteenth time this season to be allowed to drop behind our back line and with Tayo trying to rescue the situation he was beaten to the ball and caught the attacker and the red card was brandished .
Within 3 minutes we were 2 behind , yet somehow got to the half without further damage .
Our third goalkeeper of the night was introduced at the break with the message to the team to stay in the game until the last 20 minutes and then we could have a go and take more risk .
The deficit in numbers was hardly noticed as we showed tremendous energy to not just stay in the game , but to play a lot of the time in the attacking third . We had the ball in the net with 20 to go which had it stood may have made Tooting a bit nervous , but that was ruled out probably correctly . We kept going and played at a level with 10 men that would win most games . Such a shame that with 11 we look so lethargic and full of fear and almost allow our opponents a comfortable game .
Its another loss and that’s all that counts but when youre looking at more than a printed result on a website , at least going into the next game we can look at a number of improved individual performances and a collective push that’s not been seen enough .
Rochester away next , fresh from their own spectacular 9 0 away win midweek so it’s a massive test but one that in some ways takes the pressure off .
