Gange gets the late winner!!

Chessy went into this one still missing a number of 1st team regulars - Aaron Agyeman, Myles Henry & Tom Tyler all missing with injuries. Top goal scorer Kyle Green still suspended and awaiting a hearing date at Surrey FA. Ade Peters, Reggie Savage, Ian Hewitt, Mark Daniels & Ross Tomassi all miss out with work commitments. Matty Ellis expected to miss the majority of the season after re breaking his ankle against AC London, his brother unavailable due to a family emergency.

Another chance for 18 year old Bassie Oldham to impress in the Chessy goal, he lined up behind an experienced back four of J Flack, Andrew Jones, Christian Money & Adam Marie who was preferred to the impressive Ryan Howard in the last couple of games.

Josh Doe & Sharif Yacoob both making only their second starts of the season were alongside Dan Green, Lewis Skipp & Kiemon Robinson in the midfield, Martyn Gange in decent form was picked ahead of hat trick hero for the reserves in midweek Joe Charles.

Redhill started brightly like we anticipated, we knew we were in a game from the first minute, lots of home pressure with plenty of balls into the box but they never really threatened Oldham's goal.

As the game grew older we managed to find our rhythm, we stopped allowing the home side time on the ball and raised to tempo, Yacoob on the right and Robinson on the left were causing the Redhill fullbacks problems every time they run at them, and it was good work by Yacoob and Flack down the right that led to our opener, Gange was allowed time to turn after controlling a decent ball swung in from the right, he fired home from 8 yards at the second attempt.

The goal burst Redhill's bubble, they had the majority of possession but failed to make it pay.

We stepped up another gear and looked dangerous every time we went forward, Money & Andrews at the back were now having to deal with long clearances rather than balls into the box.

"It's coming" was the shout from the bench, and it wasn't long until we doubled our lead, down the right again, a wicked cross from Flack was well cleared but only to Dan Green 10 yards outside the box, his perfectly timed pass curled away from the keeper to the on rushing Robinson down the left. Robinson controlled superbly, didn't have to break stride as he drilled it past the Redhill Keeper!

We saw the half out comfortably but didn't really want the half to end.

The lads were told at half time to expect more of the same from the opposition as they always start fast, and this is exactly what happened, just a shame our lads were still sat in the changing room as the rain lashed down.

Redhill looked like a new side, it must of been the screaming and shouting we heard through the wall!? But it done the trick!! The right back was replaced after struggling with Robinson all first half, and to be fair the substitute was one of their better players second half.

Constant Redhill pressure, corner after corner, we couldn't get out of our half and it was only a matter of time before they got a goal they deserved.

The second half was only 4 minutes in when Redhill did score, a corner from their right was whipped in with pace and found a red shirt free inside the 6 yard box!

The home side definitely weren't finished, they smelt blood and went for the kill, more pressure and deservedly got their equaliser after an hour when another cross from the right wasn't dealt with inside the Chessy area, the ball was put past Oldham from close range!

We were now on the brink of complete collapse, I felt that if Redhill scored again there would be no way back!

With their tails up they kept attacking but we stood strong and limited Redhill to few clear chances after they equalised, Oldham producing one brilliant save from a long range effort.

With the newly laid pitch now cutting up and moving under foot with the rain it was becoming very draining on all the players. Ryan Howard replaced Josh Doe to give us a bit more energy in the middle of the park, and it did just that!

We finally managed to string a few passes together and started to get back into the game, but as the clock ticked down I would of definitely taken a point.

With only 4 minutes remaining it was Ryan Howard who played a delightful ball over the full back to Robinson who drove in towards goal, he smashed the ball across the face of the goal to Gange who finished into the roof of the net! Wild celebrations followed off the bench and on the pitch! Relief!!

In the closing minutes Rudolph Tewe replaced Yacoob and Casey Lumumba replaced Gange as we tried to run the clock down.

We managed to keep the ball in the Redhill corners for the dying minutes, frustrating the Redhill players, especially their captain who slapped Adam Marie in the face following a crunching tackle. The Redhill skipper received a red card.

A decent first half display was shadowed by the second and possibly our worst of the season, but we got the result in the end. A huge 3 points for Chessy as we keep up with the top 3!
