Tuesday’s game at Molesey saw us complete our succession of games against top 4 sides.

Sadly our sequence of defeats continued with it.

Molesey were without doubt the best footballing side that we have played and their slick passing and speed of movement caused us problems from the off.

Whilst the opening exchanges were relatively even it didn’t take long for our hosts to assume control and certainly our own back line were being asked the more questions. However an early corner for us brought about a strong penalty appeal for hand ball following an Adam Cheadle shot which most certainly on another day could have been given but saw the Molesey defender given the benefit of the doubt.

An injury to Nicky White, in what appeared to be a repeat of his recent hamstring injury, saw him replaced by Matt Ellis shortly after this half chance, and although the shape remained the same we appeared to lose a little of the understanding that we had at the start.

As a result Molsey now seemed to be finding room to play and it was no surprise when mid way through the half a right wing break from the home side saw their movement lose our markers too easily and the cross tucked home confidently to see us fall behind. Our response was almost immediate with some fine inter play between Moorhouse and Fontana seeing a fine volley from Fontana flash just over the bar.

That aside it was mainly ourselves being asked to defend and we managed to see out the remainder of the half just about.

In fact right on the whistle for the break we nearly equalised when a long clearance from Daniels that was missed by the centre half was spectacularly volleyed by Fontana and equally spectacularly saved by the home goalkeeper.

The second half proved more of a struggle for us with virtually no threat at all except for the occasional ball into our opponent’s penalty box that they dealt with comfortably. At the other end Mark Daniels was being kept busy and made two excellent saves to keep us in the game. With Fontana replaced by Brazil Zak Graham was moved up front but had very little to work with and was a passenger for long spells in a frustrating second spell. There was almost a sense of inevitability that a second goal would come as the home side enjoyed considerable possession and territorial advantage throughout what became a one sided half of football.

The goal eventually came with fifteen minutes to go and to be fair whilst you always analyse a goal against and look for defensive errors of which no doubt there were a few in this move credit must go to the attack that broke us down to give Molesey a deserved two goal advantage.

With the game up we enjoyed possibly our best phase of the ninety minutes as with the hosts content that they had secured the points they sat back just slightly and allowed us, for the first time, slightly more possession.

Jimmy Brazil possibly benefiting the most as he enjoyed several good runs down the right delivering crosses into good areas but with no willing runners they amounted to nothing.

Having lost for the fifth game in a row we could have no complaints this time and a mid table finish is the best we can hope for.
