Chessington deserved to win this local derby.

A great performance by the hard working Chessington side over Epsom & Ewell was well deserved with one of there best performances of the season. The way the team was set up suited us down to the ground and credit should go to the management team who had watched Epsom get beat in midweek.
The game itself started well for both teams and in the early exchanges the game was end to end with Chessington shutting down the Epsom midfield and not giving up any ground without a tackle coming in.The first half will be remembered though for a referee decision in favour of the home team when he gave Epsom a penalty when the Epsom player ducked his head down to head the ball just when Gary Puckett went to clear the ball, the first effort by Hough was placed down left going into the bottom corner but Nick Taylor got down really well to push the ball away but the linesmen said that the goalkeeper had moved off his line and the penalty had to be taken again, this time Hough chose to go the other way but again Nick Taylor produced a great save to keep Chessington in the game.(Epsom should have not have released him).
With Taylor commanding his area and the back four working well togeather Epsom were finding it hard to break us down there normally strong midfield did not have the chance or time to control the game as our midfield of Flack,Gough,Ottaway,Harding and Tyler hustled them out of there stride.

Half Time Epsom & Ewell 0-0 Chessington & Hook Utd.

The second half started the same as the first with both teams creating very few chances but now Epsom were hitting the long ball, not there normal passing game and that was down to the shutting down and the hard work of the Chessington side.In the 55th min Liam Grier replaced Paul Gough(another ex Epsom player)and the best thing i could say about him was instead of this being his first game for us it looked like he had been playing all season and settled right into the role that Paul Gough had been playing, still we kept shutting them down and still they kept trying to play the long ball to get beyond our back four but the longer the game went on the more frustrated they got and started over hitting the ball.Chessington just kept to there game plan and were rewarded when from a quick break Dan Harding had two chances to score but from the first attempt Harris in the Epsom goal produced a great save with the ball falling to Charlie Ottaway who had his shot blocked but again the ball fell to Dan Harding who made no mistake this time to put Chessington 1-0 up.
Epsom now went on all out attack but could not get any joy out of the Chessington defenders and when they did Nick Taylor dealt with everything coming into his 6 yard box and pulled off another good save when tipping over a long range shot that he never saw until the last second. When Epsom did keep the ball on the deck they showed how they could play and in one move the passing and movement got them behind Chessingtons back for but the final ball was not good enough. In the 80th min the hard working Jimmy Harding was replaced by Victor Martin who today had his football head on and not his silly head he wore last week,he showed in his first two tackles what a good player he could be.He looked like the rest of the Chessington side they wanted it more than Epsom and the result meant more to them.

Full-Time Epsom & Ewell 0-1 Chessington & Hook Utd.

It was very hard to chose a m.o.m. today as the whole squad and management team all deserve it.
This had to be the best performance of the season with the teamwork, hardwork and the effort the players put into this game. With four ex Epsom Res. players in our squad that were not given a 1st.team chance at Epsom and a Goalkeeper that was released by them we had lots to prove and we more than done that.I know the Mangement team have worked hard to turn results around and have brought in players that want to play for the club and now there starting to get results.Long may it continue.
