promotion push derailed by the fixture backlog

Saturdays game, our second at home in a week, saw us host Badshot Lea who like us seem to have seen their promotion push derailed by the fixture backlog.

That said the quality of the game was a clear indication as to why both have a reasonable chance of a top six finish.

Badshot Lea who look to play at every opportunity and from just about anywhere on the pitch allowed us two early chances through over playing, both falling to Reece Jackson who was unable to convert either. The visitors then took the lead with their first real meaningful attack, although debutant keeper Daniel Fisher was unfortunate to lose his footing as he attempted to dive.

The openness of the game however suggested that it was never a one goal match, and the chances that followed for Chessington albeit not taken were encouraging.

The equaliser arrived on fifteen minutes when Adam Cheadle fed Daniel Bennett on the right, whose curling shot flew into the top corner for another spectacular goal by a Chessington player at Chalky Lane this season.
The momentum now was firmly with us and although clear cut chances at either end were at a premium we seemed the more likely to score.
One all at half time probably a fair reflection.
The second half offered more of the same and the only real surprise was how little either keeper had to do despite some neat flowing football from both sides.

However seventeen minutes into the second half our second goal arrived. Patient play down the right saw Andrew Heath cross for Martin Jackson to volley spectacularly home to give us the lead.

Try as we might to increase the lead we just lacked a cutting edge when needed and as expected that created a nervy last ten minutes.

Thankfully Daniel Fisher was on hand twice in that time to make decent saves to preserve our lead, and give us a just about deserved win.
