Horley Town vs Chessington & Hook

Fresh from another enforced week-long break that we could have done without, we travelled to Horley Town for a bank holiday Monday morning clash, with only a win likely to keep us in touch with the leaders.

On a poor surface we never really got going, and our own decision making and mis- directed passes, served as encouragement for our hosts who certainly enjoyed the better of things early on.

In fact but for a long range effort from Reece Jackson, which was comfortably dealt with, we were restricted to set plays which due to poor delivery caused no problems at all.

With the occasional drama around our own penalty area coming to nothing we nearly snatched the lead as half time approached, when Malik Buari`s clever chip over the goalkeeper appeared to be going in until some fine last ditch defending cleared the danger.

The second half was approached with more purpose, and the gradual build up of pressure was rewarded on the hour when neat footwork from Daniel Bennett fooled the defender to such an extent that his desperate grab at his shorts resulted in a penalty that was converted by Malik Buari.
This should have been the catalyst to go on, but with the final ball going astray too often and our front players failing to retain possession as often as we would like, Horley were always allowed to stay in touch.

With fifteen minutes to go a corner that we didn`t deal with lead to the equaliser.

With a renewed sense of urgency about us we again had opportunities, although both sides keen for a win left themselves exposed at the back time after time. Again when in good positions our pass choice could be criticised and although a late effort from Daniel Bennett shaved the post we had to settle for a draw.
