Our last away game of the season

The splendid stadium providing a reasonable surface given the time of the year, and certainly the hottest matchday for some time. However that’s where the positives for the day ended.

The problems started before a ball was kicked ,with Mark Daniels injured in the warm up and Daniel Bennett who had hoped to make the game being unavoidably held up and therefore unavailable.

In a slow start where minds seemed focussed more on the end of the season we conceded two goals in quick succession, one following a lazy forward pass which put us under pressure and a second to a spectacular strike which whilst admirable in itself, in truth there was no pressure applied by our defence at all.

The third following a mistake from Daniel Fisher ended the game as a contest, and with Paul West sustaining an injury that saw him withdrawn and both Scott Todd and Malik Buari struggling, half time couldn`t come soon enough.

It could have been forgiven if thoughts had turned to damage limitation but the second half efforts were to be admired. Sure Badshot Lea had the game won , but a more disciplined approach coupled with some neat passing saw us gradually take a degree of control.

On seventy minutes this was rewarded when a right wing cross was brilliantly converted by Reece Jackson on the volley, for what was the best goal of the day.

With just a glimmer of hope we pushed forward with confidence although rarely troubled the home keeper. In fact one free kick from Malik Buari drew ironic cheers from the crowd when he actually kicked the ball out of the stadium.

With our travelling done for the season attention turns to the final two home games of the year.
