Gaffer Glynn Stephens shares his thoughts on the home win against Alfold on Saturday 13th April 2024.

CHUFC 5 - 0 Alfold FC

Saturday's win at home to Alfold was more comfortable than I expected. Having previously managed that club and with at least 6 players still there I expected them to have an extra incentive given that the game itself carried little importance to them otherwise.

We had control of the game from the opening few minutes and scored on 20 to ease any tension that may have crept in. As usual, chances came and went and it would have been disappointing to have only gone into the break 1 ahead. However, a fine finish from Maurice Black just before halftime, and his second of the game, gave us the extended lead that we deserved.

We spoke about the importance of scoring the next goal and ensuring that Alfold had no way back. I expected a reaction from them in the second half but it didn’t materialise and 2 quick goals midway through for Maurice, giving him a personal return of 4, allowed me to make a flurry of substitutions to give all of the 16 players some valuable game time. We added a further goal from Tobe Uzor and it turned out somewhat unexpectedly to be a comfortable game and win.

We have a quarter-final against Roffey on Tuesday night which I hope we win to extend our season before finishing our division one league campaign with a final home game against Mile Oak on Saturday 20th April.
